I’ve always been fascinated by small communities, microcosms, biospheres - like petri dishes cultivating human cultures

This fixation with microcosms, coupled with watching 1970s episodes of Star Trek (where the crew might travel to some far flung planet and come across a community of humanoids having cocktails at 5) was the germ of my sci-fi novel Summer at the Methane Lakes. I am presently working on the sequel and all I can say is that things get much, much darker.
